I only got to know Ruby for a short while about 10 years ago, she was kind, and had great energy. I'll never forget coloring the walls in the dirt room in her studio. I'm deeply saddened to hear of her passing.

I didn't know Ruby personally, I only know her words. I've been following her blog for a couple of years, all the way from little New Zealand. I never interacted with her online, but I wish I had. I hope it's okay if I say now to you, her family and friends, what I really wanted to say to her:
When Ruby started writing at the beginning of this year about the things that made her smile, filled her with gratitude, reminded her that living was worth all the suffering, she shone such a bright light for me from all that way across the ocean. I was really struggling with depression at the time and her posts brought me back to the present, encouraged me to pay attention to the world around me, celebrate all the tiny beautiful moments.
After her last post and the silence that followed, I thought about writing to her often to ask if she was okay. I didn't. I wanted to acknowledge how she was keeping me afloat but I wasn't brave enough. I was a stranger, she was a stranger. I cried like she was a friend when I found out she had died.
Her impact on me was real and significant. She helped me stay alive. I'm so sorry you now have to carry on with life without her physically present in it. I hope you find at least three things each day that bring you comfort, peace and delight, like she did. I am so grateful for her words, and her courage to share them.

I've been reading Ruby's blogs since last year and I truly can't believe this is real. I would like to send my condolences to her family and friends. Kindly email me if possible. I'm sure the hearts of all her readers and friends in wordpress are also disheartened the same way as I do.

Looking forward to celebrating Ruby's incredible life in a few weeks. She was a lighthouse during the darkest times in my life. She brought out the best in me and helped me when I was at my worst. I cannot begin to describe the pain of losing her but I feel so fortunate and grateful to have known her for 15 years. Thank you for everything, Ruby.
