Shirley Marlene Hackney Wharton (Hackney), age 90, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, in Morton, Washington. Born on May 6, 1935, in Chehalis, Washington, Shirley lived a long and full life rooted in love for her family and the simple joys of home.
Shirley was the beloved wife of Eddie Wharton, who preceded her in death. Together they built a life centered around family and shared values. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Rhonda Bridges and Brenda Cervantes. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Trevor Bowen, Mareesa Emmett, Jeremy Bowen, Cathy Whitmire, BJ Eastman, Jake Dunaway, Tanya Dunaway, and Heidi Cervantes. Shirley was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She held each generation close to her heart and cherished every moment spent with them.
A woman of many talents and passions, Shirley found joy in creating beauty with her hands. She was an exceptional seamstress whose knitting and crocheting brought warmth to those around her. Her green thumb was evident in the vibrant gardens she tended with care—her yard always blooming with colorful flowers and fragrant herbs she grew herself.
Shirley’s kitchen was a place of comfort and delight. She loved to bake and took pride in preparing homemade treats for anyone who stopped by. Visitors could always count on being welcomed with something fresh from the oven and a warm smile.
Above all else, Shirley treasured time spent with her family. Whether gathered for holidays or casual visits, she found happiness in their company and created lasting memories that will be cherished for generations.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Wharton and her great-grandson Benjamin Eastman III.
May Shirley’s memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
