Roberta Woodman Obituary

 Roberta Ann Grantham Woodman passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 20th at the age of 95 with family by her bedside.  She was born March 27th, 1925 in Lamar, Colorado and grew up in Canon City, Colorado.  She was the first of eight children born to Clara Jane Osborn Grantham and Elza Hargraves Grantham.  She is survived by four siblings; Mary Martson, Norman Grantham, Richard Grantham of Colorado, and Melvin Grantham of Gruver, Texas.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Grantham and Clyde Grantham and one sister, Bettie Kirkham.  Her Grantham family was very important to Roberta and she made it a priority to visit and keep in touch over the years. On September 1st, 1943 at the age of 18 she married Harvey Richard Woodman, “Woody”, in Canon City, Colorado.  In 1945 they moved to Washington State where they settled in the Littlerock area and raised their eight children; Anne Leak and Judy Hewitt of Centralia, Richard Woodman of Auburn, Kathryn Jean Hughey and Daphne Patterson of Shelton, Denise Williams of Mossyrock, Celeste Woodman of Longview and Donna Wolfe of Rockyford, Colorado. Donna is now a missionary living in the Philippines. In 1964 Roberta, Woody and their family moved to Centralia and in 1971 she completed a nursing degree at Centralia College. She had always wanted to be a nurse and had worked as a nurse’s aide for many years. Because of her love of learning, hard work, and nursing experience, she graduated at the top of her class.  Roberta worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in hospitals and doctor’s offices in the Centralia/Chehalis area for many years.  In 1978 with only their youngest daughter Celeste left at home, they moved to Napavine. Roberta retired in 1988.  Roberta had a very full life focused on family. She faithfully acknowledged everyone with birthday cards and she was the family historian for both the Grantham and Woodman family.  She was a very knowledgeable gardener, she especially enjoyed growing roses and fruit trees.  She also was a skillful writer and enjoyed traveling, attending church, visiting with friends and family as well as hosting family celebrations.  She spent her life loving God and her family.  Roberta was preceded in death by her husband Woody in 2004 and two beloved grandsons, Johnathan Hewitt in 1994 and Keith Woodman in 2019,  She was most proud of her 8 children, 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren,  She had a long and happy life and will be missed  A graveside service was held for her at Claquato Cemetery.
