In loving memory of Naomi Auman, 1932-2025
Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and best friend, Naomi Auman, passed on October 2, 2025 in Chehalis, Washington at age 93.
Naomi was a beloved and most loving, kind, Christian woman; she was born August 14, 1932, in Twin Falls, Idaho. At age 16, she lost her mother, Mary Willis-Smith. In November of 1949, she married Robert (Bob) Auman of Kosmos, Washington. Four children were born to the union, Mary Jo Johnson, Roberta (Vincent) Yamamoto, Paul (Sharon) Auman, and Rick (Shelli) Auman; she has eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
While their children were growing up, Naomi and Bob lived in various Lewis County towns, always making friends with each move. Naomi enjoyed living in Glenoma, and Randle where she made many life-long friends and shared life experiences surrounding good country living; hiking in the Gifford Pinchot forest, riding bikes, gardening, and seasonal canning. A devoted and excellent homemaker, Naomi was also a talented seamstress—making annual wardrobes for her daughters and shirts for her sons—and contributed significantly to the chores of living on a family farm. Moving closer to Chehalis after their children were raised, Naomi attended South Puget Sound Community College and became a certified Pharmacy Assistant; she worked at various hospitals and retail pharmacies until she retired. She also attained an Associate in Technical Arts degree in Management Training from Centralia College. In addition, she was a part-time bookkeeper for her husband and sons’ family business, R&R Construction. After retiring, Naomi and Bob lived across Idaho and Eastern Washington, continuing to make even more friends. As age caught up, they returned to Lewis County, living in Onalaska, to be close to their children.
Naomi enjoyed reading, attending live theater, sharing recipes, seeing friends, growing flowers—especially dahlias—picking wild berries, and membership in the Seattle Children’s Orthopedic Guild. Naomi always had fun going to the beach, digging clams with family and friends, and visiting county and state fairs. She helped Bob raise thoroughbreds as a hobby and was proud of her mare Cherie. Above all, Naomi loved her family.
Naomi is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings. The family thanks the Assured Hospice staff—and her caretakers at Silver Acres I—for their excellent care of our wonderful Mom and supporting our family.
A celebration of life will be held at Bethel Church in Chehalis, Washington, on November 16, 2025, at 2pm. Light refreshments will be served after the service. Donations can be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://donorservices.alz.org or to the White Pass
Country Historical Museum at PO Box 958, Packwood, WA 98361.
