Obituary of Martha E. Strouth
Martha E. Strouth, a resident of Lewis County passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus in her home in Centralia, Washington at the age of 90 on August 18th 2024. Martha was greatly loved by family, friends and co-workers, and all who knew her. We will miss her greatly. She had a delightful sense of optimism and humor.
After graduation from high school in Clintwood, Va in 1955, Martha joined the United States Air Force. After her service, she came to the state of Washington to be with other family members. She was born in Clintwood, Va, the fourth of eleven children. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mabel Strouth of Adna, one brother, Joe, two sisters, Dora Mullins and Mary Koenig. She is survived by four sisters, Ruby Ford of Graham, Nina Belcher (Jim) of Winlock, Joyce Strouth of Centralia and Tina Wilson of Centralia; and three brothers, Jonas of Minnesota, Clester of Virginia and James of Adna and many nieces and nephews. Martha’s life was a life of service. After her term in the United States Air Force, she went to work as an aide in a nursing care facility. Later, she became an LPN, and then when the opportunity came for her to advance her career, she became an RN. She not only applied nursing skills at work but especially to her parents who preceded her in death. She retired from Providence Hospital in Centralia, Washington. Martha was a loyal friend, loyal to her family and devoted follower of Jesus. Even when she could no longer process thoughts clearly, she always wanted her Bible, a pen and paper to take notes. And when she didn’t know what day it was, she wondered, “Am I late for prayer meeting”? She layed up “ treasures where moth and rust do not corrupt.”
