Kenneth Buchanan Obituary

Kenneth Harry Buchanan, 80, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Friday March 8, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Kenneth, also known to many as Ken or Kenny, was born in Mt Vernon, WA on July 14, 1943 to Ralph and Della Buchanan, who preceded him in death.

Ken married Shirley Redfield on July 7, 1962, in Packwood, WA. He worked various construction jobs, including blasting the diversion tunnels on the Mossyrock Dam with his dad, Ralph. He entered into the logging industry in the mid 70’s, driving log trucks before becoming a shovel operator and owning 4 logging trucks throughout his career. He enjoyed boating, shrimping, fishing, and camping, along with clam digging, and spending time with family. He also loved antique cars and attending car shows throughout the area with his Red ‘52 Chevy pickup, which he completely restored, before selling and obtaining his ‘67 Chevy Nova. In his spare time and into retirement, you could always find him working on something down at his shop or out visiting family and long-time friends. Ken will be greatly missed by many!

Ken is survived by his wife Shirley, son Jeff Buchanan, daughters Kristi (Jeff) Pruett and Rachael (Kevin) Rice, granddaughters, Tara (Greg) Snelson, Nicholle (Nick Wheeler) Moon, and Kendal Rice, step-granddaughter Kimberly (Ryan) Elliott, along with great granddaughter, Rissa Luurs, great grandsons, Colin and Cory Wheeler and step-great granddaughters, Dakota Richards, Charlie, Devon, and Keegan Elliott. He is also survived by his siblings, Ben (Polly) Buchanan, Cliff (Jeannie) Buchanan, Kay (Ed) Bond and Nick (Mary) Buchanan, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Veterans Memorial Museum in the Jensen Memorial Event Center, Chehalis, WA, Saturday April 20, 2024, at 1pm.
