John Maack Henricksen, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Chehalis doing what he loved most, working on his house in Washington on May 15th 2024. He was 79 years old.
Born on February 7, 1945, in Chehalis WA to Andrew and Leonora Henricksen, John was a true Washingtonian, raised with a deep appreciation for the beauty and grandeur of the Pacific Northwest. Spending time outdoors on adventures with his family was a source of great joy, they spent countless hours hiking and camping under the stars with his family.
John married his high school sweetheart, Jolyn Kay Coburn, and was a devoted and loving father to his four children. He instilled in them his love for hard work while always ready with a word of wisdom, and a comforting hug. His fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
He lived a life of service to others. After graduating from the University Of Washington Dental School he served his country in the Vietnam war. Something that he was immensely proud of his entire life. After returning home he served in various capacities in his church, in every community building organization he could find, in rotary and on numerous school bond issues. He was particularly proud of his special deputy sherifs badge while working as a forensic dentist for Lewis County.
John was an incredibly hardworking man, dedicating 43 years to his career as a dentist. He took great pride in his work, approaching each day with integrity, determination and a true love for his patients. His colleagues respected him for his steadfastness, skill and knowledge. Many came to regard him as a mentor and a friend.
Known for his sharp wit, infectious spirit, and his ability to tell captivating stories of his adventures. He was a man who never hesitated to lend a hand to a neighbor, a friend in need, or a stranger. He had a unique way of making those around him feel as though they were the best of friends.
"Throughout his adult life, John grew in his faith in Jesus Christ through his service and membership in The Church of Jesus Christ. His discipleship was primarily demonstrated through ministering to and loving others."
John is survived by; his wife Jolyn, his children, Erika Glancy (Charles), Andrea Shaw (Scott), Chris Henricksen and Dan Henricksen (Lacey); his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his sister JoeAnn Torko. He also leaves behind a community of friends and neighbors who will miss his presence dearly.
A service to celebrate John's life will be held at 11:00 AM on May 29th at the LDS Chapel on 2195 Jackson Hwy Chehalis WA 98532.
The family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in John's memory to one of these, his favorite Charities.
