Jeffrey Curtis Hunter
July 27, 1960 – February18, 2026
Jeffrey, beloved husband, son, brother and friend, passed away suddenly at his home in Winlock, WA at age 65.
Jeffrey was the son of late Robert J. Hunter and Carole Byrnes Hunter. He leaves behind to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 25 years, Jodee (Dodge) Hunter, brother Matthew (Tammy) of Uniondale PA., brother in-law Scott (Barbara) Dodge of Rochester, NY. Many nieces, a nephew, numerous longtime friends and Camo the cat.
Jeffrey was born in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ, where he developed lifelong friendships and passions. As a youth he swam for the Hunt Tract Swim Club and later attended Cherry Hill High School East, where he was co-captain of the 1978 New Jersey State Championship swim team in the state’s largest high school division. Jeffrey was also voted “friendliest student” of the senior class: his smile and warm personality were non-stop and infectious. He went on to attend Gettysburg College, majoring in Biology. An avid reader of comics, Calvin and Hobbs his favorite and science fiction. Jeffrey was a lifelong student of the life sciences, he spent much of his career working in the fields of medical devices, biologics and homeopathic medicine.
While at Gettysburg College, Jeffrey was on the swim team and president of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity where he established many close friendships that endured for his entire life. After graduating in 1982, he packed up his Renault and set on a journey across county. He stopped at various campgrounds, landmarks and ATO’s sharing comradery with the brothers. He finally ended up in Los Angeles where he met a whole new group of friends and made a start in the medical device career.
In 1993, Jeffrey Co-Founded Seneca Surgical, Inc. in upstate New York, an award-winning company specializing in the sale and distribution of Arthrex surgical instruments and disposables. During his years in Rochester, NY, Jeffrey met the love of his life Jodee. The two married 2001 in Bermuda. Many adventures began, foreign and domestic travel, camping, snowshoeing, hiking and backpacking in the Finger Lakes, Adirondacks and Allegany’s. They established a homestead in Canadice, NY until one day in 2013 he said “Bear lets sell the house, buy a travel trailer and see the country”. We settled in WA.
Friends from high school gave Jeffrey the nickname “Bundles,” because he seemed to embody bundles of everything good in life – bundles of joy, bundles of hugs and bundles of laughter. As the years passed, his friends updated that nickname to “The Doubler,” a reflection of his larger-than-life spirit. Every drink was a double, every meal a double portion and every chuckle became a deep, contagious belly laugh.
Jeffrey lived life with confident enthusiasm. He worked hard, often rising at 5a.m. to support orthopedic surgeons before the start of their day. By evening he could often be found in the gym, and later enjoying good food, drinks, stories and laughter with friends. Above all, he loved his wife, his family, his friends, the outdoors, and adventure.
A trademark of Jeffrey’s warmth was his legendary bear hug, almost always followed by his enthusiastic greeting “How the hell are you – where have you been?” He had a remarkable way of remembering people’s families, asking about their children by name, and showing genuine curiosity about their lives. Never judgmental, he had a gift for asking thoughtful and caring questions that showed how deeply he cared.
Jeffrey’s creativity and sense of humor were also on full display each holiday season. Recipients knew to open his unconventional Christmas cards with extreme care. Wrapped in the Sunday comics, they often contained surprises – sometimes a burst of confetti or glitter, sometimes a homemade ornament, such as a catheter dipped in red and green paint and hung with a paperclip.
Jeffrey also shared decades of friendship and adventure with his school group known as “The Beard Club.” Over the years they took epic trips to Las Vegas and New Orleans. Many of their most memorable stories revolved around Jeffrey, from losing a driver’s license down an elevator shaft, to passionately explaining why thin-crust pizza was a sensible way to limit carbohydrates.
Completely comfortable in his own skin and always authentically himself, Jeffrey lived with generosity, humor and an enormous love of life. He would say enjoy nature, comfort one another and be mindful of life’s journey. Those who knew him feel fortunate to have shared time, laughter, and friendship with him and he will be deeply missed. SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND.
Celebration of life will be conducted at the convenience of family and friends.
