Jannett Kay “Jan”
Buschlen (Brown) of
Winlock, Wash., was born
in Sandusky, Mich., Aug. 4,
1941. After living bravely
for a year following a
devastating stroke, she
left us for a better place
March 4, 2020. Jan passed
peacefully in her sleep
with her loving husband
of 57 years, Berwyn Lee
“Busch” Buschlen at her side.
In addition to her husband, Jan is survived by her
devoted daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Craig
Kalich of Raymond, Wash., and their kids, Joel and
Myra. Jan was the eighth of nine siblings. Her oldest
sister, Beulah Parraghi is now 91 and still lives in
Michigan, as the last survivor of Jan’s original family.
Jan taught and coached middle school for 32 years
in California and Washington. She loved to walk,
read, knit and travel. A truly versatile person, Jan
made exquisite quilts, did yardwork and enjoyed such
projects as rebuilding retro travel trailers, creating
unique bird houses and even doing plumbing repair.
She was superlative at Scrabble and liked playing
pinochle at senior centers here and as a snow-birder
in Arizona.
Jan will be missed by a multitude of former students
and other friends from the community, particularly
those of the Chehalis United Methodist Church. She
is remembered for her sense of humor, incredible
memory, strong faith, can-do spirit and positive
attitude. A memorial service will be announced later.
