James Watson Obituary

James Gustave Banner Watson, lovingly known as "Jim," passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, in Olympia Washington. Born on November 8, 1941, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and a naturalized United States citizen, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep connection to the outdoors.

Jim proudly served his country for 28 years in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. A Vietnam veteran, he exemplified courage and commitment throughout his military career. Jim served in the 4th Infantry Division in Pleiku, Vietnam. His service was a testament to his unwavering sense of duty and patriotism.

Outside of his military accomplishments, Jim found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who cherished time spent in nature. In prior years he also enjoyed camping and visiting various national parks. Whether casting a line or trekking through the woods, these activities brought him peace and fulfillment. Jim also had a fondness for driving his tractor and mowing the grass at his Cowlitz River home-a pastime that reflected his appreciation for hard work and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Laura (White) Watson; his beloved sister, Margaret Victoria Watson; two daughters, a grandson and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry Thomas Joseph Watson and Edith Victoria Grandame, as well as his brother Warren Austin Grandame Watson.

Jim's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of service and love for the outdoors will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.

May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
