Doris Blum Obituary

Doris Rose (Kalista) Blum passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020. She was born January 20, 1944 in Toledo, Washington to Bill and Edna Kalista.

Growing up and settling in Winlock, WA,  Doris bestowed her heart of gold upon the community. As a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary, she could be found frequently sharing her mercy and grace to those around her while serving meals, fundraising, and advocating for veterans and other beloved members of the community. Ever the creative spirit, she spent much of her time crocheting, knitting, sewing, baking, and canning, amongst other things. Many of these skills translated to her volunteer work, as she donated many of her knit/crochet blankets, bags, canned goods, and various other crafts to community uplifting efforts.

Doris is described by her eldest son Don as pleasantly reminiscent of an earlier time; one where letters were hand written, meals were home cooked, and food was grown fresh and harvested from their family farm. Her twin boys, Shawn and Scott, epitomized her as a saviour and a truly unparalleled personality in the community; she found true purpose in helping those who were down on their luck and frequently thought of others before herself. All three sons honor her spirit by exhibiting the same compassionate traits and traditional skill sets.

Doris was preceded in death by her mother and father Bill and Edna (McAndrew) Kalista, her sister Joan (Kalista) Williams, and her husband of 27 years, James Earnest Blum. She is survived by her sister Wilma (Kalista) Roundtree, her three sons and eight grandchildren; Donald Machine, wife Sandra, and children Austin and wife Heidi, Cody, Cameron, Chance, and Owen; Shawn Blum, fiancée Janiece Franks, and daughter Cara; and finally, Scott Blum and daughter Brooke. Plus one great grandchild, Marceline, and her many nieces and nephews. All of whom she cared for deeply, and who will all miss her greatly.
