Wilma "Billie" Vowell Obituary

On Monday, September 23, 2019, Wilma (Billie) Ruth Vowell, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home at age 92. Wilma was born on August 2, 1927, in St. Maries, Idaho, to Floyd and Florence Hanson, the second oldest of six children, being raised in Seattle, Washington. She was married briefly to Marti Mackie at age 17, but relocated alone to California, where her first daughter, Kathryn (Kathy), was born. She met and married Robert Albright in San Francisco, CA, and he adopted Kathy. They had their second daughter, Virginia (Ginger), and later settled in the Sacramento, CA area, where their third daughter, Joelene, was born. Billie later worked as a secretary for a local school district, and after being widowed in 1978, worked for California State University at Sacramento (CSUS) and met her third husband, Ed Vowell. She and Ed enjoyed almost 35 wonderful years together, a true testament to a loving marriage. In 1996, they built a home on ten acres in Winlock, WA, and discovered the thrill of taking cruises around the world, including to places such as Germany, Greece, Egypt, China, and Chile. As a life-long Christian, she loved the Lord Jesus, attending church regularly and singing soprano in the choir, and devoting herself to prayer and Bible reading. In her early to mid-adult years, she enjoyed classical music, sewing, and skiing. Later, she reveled in cooking, gardening, camping, and playing Scrabble. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Hanson, and sisters Florence Hammond and Joyce Napier. She is survived by her loving husband Ed Vowell; sister Virginia (Ginny) Morgan; brother Richard Hanson; daughters Kathy Adcock, Ginger Albright, and Joelene Rodriguez; step-children Ronald Albright, Cheryl Wanner, and Ed Vowell; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
