Ronald Clarence
Schuttie, 91, passed
away Sept. 15, 2019.
He was born on the
family farm in Ethel,
Wash., August 30,
1928, to Joseph and
Gertrude Schuttie.
Ron attended
Hopewell School
and Onalaska High
School, graduating
in 1946. He met
Ruby, the love of
his life, at the dance
hall in Toledo, Wash.
They married March
8, 1952. They lived fi ve years in Seaview, Wash., before
returning to Lewis County in 1963, residing at their present
home in Onalaska, Wash.
Ron was a faithful member of the Onalaska Community
Presbyterian Church and helped with many building projects
over the years. He was a member of the Onalaska Lions
Club and assisted the Onalaska Alliance with the Carlisle
Lake project. Onalaska was home and he was honored to
serve his community. Ron retired in 1982, as a civil engineer
for the Department of Transportation and then worked in
disaster recovery for FEMA, retiring in 2011. Ron served
in the United States Army National Guard and retired after
26 years of service. He was proud to be of service to our
country.
Ron and his brother, Vic operated the Schuttie Tree Farm
and received several awards for Christmas tree management.
Ron was an excellent steward of the land and forest. He
enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fi shing, gardening and
tending to his trees. Ron played baseball for Onalaska High
School, the Toledo Cheesemakers and the New Westminster
semi-pro team. He was dedicated to the Onalaska baseball
program. Over 40 years he volunteered countless hours to
include building of the baseball fi elds, running the fi reworks
stand with Ruby, coaching girls softball and little league,
dragging fi elds and umpiring. Ron loved baseball!
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; and brother,
Vic Schuttie.
He is survived by son, Ronn (Cindy) Schuttie; and
daughter, Sharon (Jeff) Mason; grandchildren, Kyle Schuttie,
Haylee (Shawn) Downs, Jennifer (Gary) Senior and Andrea
(Matthew) Greenlaw; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., noon,
Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at the Onalaska Community
Presbyterian Church, with a lunch reception following.
