Richard Bowen Obituary

Richard (Dick) Bowen, 88 of Winlock passed away peacefully surrounded by his family August 9, 2019. Dick was born on January 30, 1931 to Cortez Albert Bowen and Ella Louise Bowen. He was raised in Winlock, Washington, graduating in 1949 and was then drafted by the US Army. Before leaving for his year long journey in the Korean war he married his high school sweet heart and love of his life Stasia A. Clinch. When he returned from the war they went on to build a beautiful family and life together at the same farm house he was born in, having 4 sons and a daughter before her sudden passing from Leukemia at the age of 29. Dick was an incredibly hard working man, splitting his time between raising his children, working on the farm and his long career with City of Tacoma. He started as a surveyor and later become one of the first ever Mayfield Dam operators, and he would later retire from that position. He would also go on to get remarried and have another son. He was a very proud father who worked extremely hard to provide for his family. He was also an avid outdoorsman and he had a passion for hunting, camping and exploring. He took many hunting trips with his boys and friends in Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Alaska, and Canada. And he would continue talking about those trips the rest of his life. Dick later remarried Geri who met through the classified ads in the local newspaper. They were married for 20 years. After divorcing and spending many years apart their love brought them back together and they were together until her recent passing this past November. After retirement he spent a lot of time with his family and traveling. You could usually find him working on his property feeding the deer, tinkering in his shops, on his tractor, at gun shows or in his gun room. He was not only a collector and expert of guns but chainsaws as well. Richard Bowen was an extremely proud American and one of the most patriotic men around. He also spent the last 10 years as a snowbird in Surprise AZ where he enjoyed his daily walks and feeding the birds. Richard is survived by his 6 children: Keith Bowen (Suzie) of Scappoose, Frank Bowen (Michelle) of Bend, Ronald Bowen (Pinyaphat) of San Diego, Lorna Murray (Shawn) of Portland, Kelly Bowen of Vancouver, Lloyd Bowen (Renee) of Ridgecrest; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Stasia, and his sister Betty Krause. Dick was a man who loved his life and family fiercely, and was loved in return by all. A potluck reception will follow at the Olequa Senior Center.
