Iva Saari

Iva Mae (Rogers) Saari, 104, died peacefully June 3, 2019. Her family was from Harlan, Ky., and they moved to Vader, where she was born March 9, 1915. Iva was preceded in death by her treasured husband, Waino “Nick” Saari, 91, whom she married June 7, 1935; and her loving child, James Roger Saari, 76, who passed away in 2013, after a short battle with cancer. She is survived by her only granddaughter, Kim Saari Johnston of Kirkland, Wash., whom remembers spending many summer breaks as a young kid in Vader with her grandma and grandpa, helping out in the garden, eating her home cooked fried chicken and gravy with mashed potatoes, fresh green beans and corn on the cob; and her great-grandchildren, Joey, 23, Amanda, 22, and Michael, 19, who loved spending time with their granny, all of whom she adored. A private family gathering will be held this summer at Little Falls Cemetery in Vader.
