Charles Wieland Jr.,
93, peacefully passed
away in his sleep
May 17, 2019, at
Sharon Care Center in
Centralia, Wash. He
was born Jan. 20, 1926,
to parents, Charles and
Eva in Philadelphia,
Pa., joining sisters,
Eva, Mildred and
Miriam.
Jan. 19, 1944, just
before his 18th birthday, Charles enlisted in the United
States Navy and served three years in the Asiatic-
Pacific Area Campaign during World War II, earning
three medals.
Charles met his future wife, Joyce Helen Anderson at
a United Service Organizations dance, while stationed
in Bremerton, Wash. They married June 15, 1946.
He began his 30 year career at the Washington State
Highway Department in 1947, retiring in 1977. He
became a minister in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce,
July 15, 2001.
Charles is survived by their three children, Greg
(Christal), Rick (Peggy) and Susan Janke (Frank);
nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two
great-greatgrandsons; and his dear companion, Marlys
Holmgren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday,
June 15, 2019, at the Napavine Assembly of God
Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Sharon
Care Center Activity Department or the Lewis County
Animal Shelter.
