Trudean Marion Marriott

December 16, 1933 ~ July 11, 2016 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Trudean Marion “Trudy” Marriott passed away peacefully on July 11, 2016 in Bremerton, Washington. Born on December 16, 1933 in Victoria, British Columbia Canada, she was adopted by Rudy and Mildred Toman and spent her young life on Vancouver Island. She graduated from Courtenay High School and received a B.A. in Home Economics Education from the University of British Columbia. Trudy married John A. “Jack” Marriott in Courtenay on August 15, 1959 and after a brief honeymoon where she took the one and only roller coaster ride of her life, they made their home in Langley BC. She taught High School Home Economics in until she married and started having children. She and Jack owned a dairy farm and later raised beef cattle. While she no longer taught home economics professionally, she was hardly an amateur in her practice of the domestic arts. Pursuing her craft with the diligence, dedication and zeal of an Olympian, she sewed, knit, crocheted, quilted, jammed, jellied, pickled, baked, and gardened her way through the next six decades. And her immediate and extended family was consistently well-dressed and well-nourished in the process. Far ahead of the current farm-to-table trend, the bounty of her garden filled her pantry—and her baked goods, vegetables and flowers garnered her dozens of ribbons and awards at the county fair. A resident of Toledo, WA since 1978, Trudy was active in the Cowlitz Prairie Crazy Quilters, the Friendly Neighbors Garden Club and volunteered on the Timberland Regional Library Board. It is rumored that she read every single mystery novel in the Winlock Library and she finished the NYT crossword puzzle every week. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, and children Sharon, Lynn, and Alan. She is survived and greatly missed by her daughter Diane (Arnold) Fish, grandchildren James (Heather), Evan and Anna Fish of Bremerton, WA and daughter-in-law Michaela (David) Barnes and grandson Gregory of Topeka, KS. There will be a graveside service at Lone Hill Cemetery, Toledo, WA at 1:00 pm on July 28, 2016. Not one to toot her own horn she would probably be mildly embarrassed (but secretly delighted) at all the fuss being made of her. Please bring remembrances of Trudy to share! In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Trudy's name to the Washington State Foundation of Garden Clubs' scholarship fund. Flowers and education were two of her great passions. Make checks payable to "WSFGC Scholarship Fund" and send to JoAnn Goldman, 18811 51st Ave NE, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155.
