Welcome to the memorial page for

Mark Alan Volland

August 16, 1963 ~ April 30, 2015 (age 51) 51 Years Old

On April 30, 2015 Mark Alan Vollan lost his battle with Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Mark passed away at home with his family at his side. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Mark was born Aug 16, 1963 in Yakima to Becky Ann Volland (White) and Howard Keith Volland. He was the first of three children born to Becky and Howard. He spent his early years in Yakima then moved to Chehalis where he attended school from 6th grade on, graduating from W.F. West High School in 1981. Mark had already begun working at Milman Engineering, where he eventually became a Journeyman Machinist. Mark worked for several years for: Kelly Sporting Goods, PPG Glass, PLP Plastics, and Boeing. Mark spent the last 16 years with Rogers Machinery Company Inc, a job he truly loved along with the people he worked with.

Mark was married in 1987 to Kelli Boggs (Zigler) and two of his joys in his life were born, his sons Joshua Alan and Derek Wayne. He loved his boys very much, spending time teaching them his love of outdoors. He always expressed his wish that he could have spent more time with them.

In 1999 he met Kris (Darby) of Longview, WA on a blind date set up by their mutal friend Bud Zunino. They were married on February 16, 2002. Kris brought two children to the marriage, Alyssa (Aly) and Tristan (TJ). Mark loved them as his own.

On August 14, 2012 Mark's first grandson Raylan was born to Aly. Raylan was joined in 2014 by Madeline, Kimberly, Robert (Bubba) and Bella. His grandchildren were the light of his life and brought him much joy. They all loved their Papa/Grandpa Mark as much in return. He loved going to the lake fishing or holding them in his lap.

Mark had many friends starting with his years in Yakima growing up and those friendships continued even after his move to Chehalis where even more people grew to think of Mark as a friend. There were many times when walking through a store Mark would stop and talk to people he called friend. He was also very generous with his time and would be the first in line if he knew somebody needed assistance.

His family always came first including his mother Becky, sisters Michelle and Midge. He also added half-sister Lucinda to his family in recent years when she found him through Facebook. His wife Kris was a constant at his side even going hunting with him on several occasions so they could spend time together.

Mark is survived by his wife Kris (Darby) of Chehalis: his children. Joshua Volland, wife Michelle and their children of Adna; Derek Volland of Chehalis; Aly Walker, husband Kyle and their son of Lacey; Tristan (TJ) Maxwell of Ellensburg; He is also survived by his mother Becky (Granny) Volland on the family farm and sisters Michelle Miller and Doug Carlson of Olympia; Midge Joiner, her husband Jay and daughter of Bremerton; Half-sister Lucinda Smith and daughter of San Antonio, TX; grandmother Leora White of Yakima. Special friend Jesse Gillapsie. And many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Rodney (Red) White and several good friends and hunting partners who were all waiting so they could have  a chace at, that monster Elk.

Mark is gone from our sight but never from of hearts. We will remember his smile that seemed to be always there. His memories will go on in his children, grandchildren and everyone else that met him and loved him. He fought valiantly the last two years with the support of his wife, family and friends. We will always miss you Mark.
