Lonnie Dale Johnson

January 3, 1948 ~ January 26, 2016 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Lonnie Dale Johnson of Onalaska, WA passed away at his home on January 26, 2016. He was 68 years old. Lon was born on January 3, 1948 in Centralia, WA to Eugene & Nellie Johnson. He graduated from Centralia High School in 1966. Lon married Deborah Sudano in 1967 and had two children; Travis Johnson of Denton, TX and Tonya Hanway of Lacey, WA. Lon’s second marriage was to Cheryl Dennis on September 7, 1974. They were married for 41 years and had two children; Jason Johnson of Onalaska, WA and Lindsay Johnson of Centralia, WA. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Kaye in 1976.   He has numerous grandchildren that will dearly miss him. Lon enjoyed restoring old cars in his spare time as well as construction and woodworking. He was known for his funny sense of humor and always had a great story to tell. He took great pride in always being the one to sneak babies their first bite of hot dog, ice cream, frosting, etc. He built the best tree forts, gymnastic bars and even a spinning swing set. He loved riding quads in the dunes, camping at the beach, and mountain biking. Lon started working for Graystone Concrete in 1967, working in the construction business for the next 35 years; setting up, running, and maintaining concrete batch plants throughout Washington and parts of Kentucky and Arizona. Among his many jobs, he helped in the construction of dams, bridges, silos, and just about everything else that could be made of concrete. One of his more notable jobs included pouring the concrete for all of the bridges on the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway. He later worked for TJ Guyer remodeling and maintaining rental properties. Lon always had great words of wisdom, his favorite advice, “It’s better to be a little sick than to waste the food!” has been repeated at many dinner tables after being his guest. Everyone that knew him including his wife, children, friends and family will feel a giant hole in their world with his passing but will continue to remember his awesome sense of humor and stories.
