Linda Neher Obituary

On March 17, 2018 our mom, Linda Neher, peacefully passed in her sleep at Prestige Acute Care. Linda was born in Littleton, Colorado in 1929 and told many wonderful stories of a childhood raised on a big homestead ranch with her 2 siblings & our grandparents Harry & Esther Hurkett. She always raved about a wonderful childhood filled with adventure and love. She leaves behind 2 daughters, Roberta Strom (John), Toledo & Beckie Stephens (Steve Moore) of Olympia, brother Henry “Bud” Hurkett (Dorothy) Lakeport, CA. She was blessed to have 9+ Grandchildren, 16+ Great Grand Children & 3 Great-Great Grand Children, numerous nieces & nephews & cousins spread around the US. She was preceded in death by both parents, our father Ray Neher, her sister Suzanne “Pat” O’dneal, 1 grandson & 1 infant son. Linda moved to Napavine, WA in 1976 from Northern CA. After she retired, she sold her Napavine ranch moved to live with her daughter Roberta in Toledo, WA & resided there until moving to Centralia in 2016. She was very active in the Toledo Senior Center, Napavine Rebekahs IOF, the Grange & Lake County Horseman Club. Our mom spent the last 2 months in Acute Care in Centralia with extra care through Assured Hospice & they provided wonderful loving care. We were blessed to have a “village” of care to help through the last few years. She loved the staff & friends made at Stillwater’s Colonial Residence, we could not have chosen better. WHO WAS OUR MOM: She was a survivor & caretaker. A mom to us & everyone else who needed a mom. Anyone who ever stayed with us or visited a lot growing up, became her kids. Anyone who’s parent or spouse wasn’t good to them, she would take them in, help them. She was “aunt Lin” to more than her true family. She was Grandma (and Granny Lin) to more than her actual 28 grand to great-great grandkids. OUR MOM was a gardener, animal lover & raiser, hard worker, crocheter (made hats & mittens, scarfs, doilies for everyone & baby hats for the baby’s at the hospital & different organizations) and took care of her mom with severe Alzheimer, at home, until she passed. She loved her family & was never afraid to tell people she loved them, unconditionally. She had to work outside the home after our dad left & she learned how to sell Neo-Life Food Supplements from her sister Patty O’dneal – and ran a successful business until retirement at 69. She loved travelling up & down WA, OR, CA corridor with her sister giving meetings. On top of her main sales job, she also sold Thousand Trails Memberships in the late 70’s and had a craft booth at Sunbirds for a very long time. You may have seen her in the 70-90’s at the SW Washington Fairgrounds each year selling her Neo-Life food supplements. Our mom was a collector of everything: especially dolls & jewelry & antiques. If you ever went to her house, wherever she lived, you got the experience. She always told us it was growing up in the depression era, so she saved it all. At this time a Celebration of Life has not been determined. For notification please email bs7896381@gmail.com or call 360-789-6381.
